A new radio census of neutron star X-ray binaries

چکیده

We report new radio observations of a sample thirty-six neutron star (NS) X-ray binaries, more than doubling the in literature observed at current-day sensitivities. These sources include thirteen weakly-magnetised ($B<10^{10}$ G) and twenty-three strongly-magnetised ($B\geq10^{10}$ NSs. Sixteen latter category reside high-mass which only two systems were radio-detected previously. detect four weakly nine NSs; are systematically fainter former do not exceed $L_R \approx 3\times10^{28}$ erg/s. In turn, we confirm earlier finding that weakly-magnetized NSs typically accreting stellar-mass black holes. While an unambiguous identification origin emission binaries is challenging, find all but detected (Vela X-1 4U 1700-37) appears likely attributable to jet donor wind. The NS does reveal global correlation between luminosity, may be result sensitivity limits. Furthermore, discuss effect spin magnetic field on luminosity power our sample. No current model can account for properties, necessitating development refinement models strengths up $10^{13}$ G. Finally, quenching soft states low-mass non-detections very-faint sample, future campaigns

Transient neutron star X{ray binaries with Simbol-X

We present a brief overview of test-bed observations on accreting neutron star binaries for the Simbol-X mission. We show that Simbol-X will provide unique observations able to disclose the physical mechanisms responsible for their high energy emission.

A Lack of Radio Emission from Neutron Star Low Mass X-ray Binaries

We report strict upper limits to the radio luminosities of three neutron star low-mass X-ray binaries obtained with the Very Large Array while they were in hard X-ray states as observed with the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer: 1E 1724–307, 4U 1812–12, and SLX 1735–269. We compare these upper limits to the radio luminosities of several black hole binaries in very similar hard states, and find that ...

Accretion onto the neutron star in Be/X-ray binaries

We study accretion onto the neutron star in Be/X-ray binaries, using a 3D SPH code and the data imported from a high resolution simulation by Okazaki et al. (2002) for a coplanar system with a short period (Porb = 24.3 d) and moderate eccentricity (e = 0.34). We find that a timedependent accretion disk is formed around the neutron star in Be/X-ray binaries. The disk shrinks after the periastron...

Eccentric orbits and QPOs in neutron star X-ray binaries

We investigate the suggestion that the frequencies of the kilohertz and other QPOs in the emission from neutron stars in low-mass X-ray binaries are generated by geodesic motion of gas clumps around the star. First we assume, following previous work, that the dominant frequencies produced by such motions are the azimuthal frequency ν K , the apsidal precession frequency ν AP , and the first ove...

Correlation between radio luminosity and X-ray timing frequencies in neutron star and black hole X-ray binaries

We report on correlations between radio luminosity and X-ray timing features in X-ray binary systems containing low magnetic field neutron stars and black holes. The sample of neutron star systems consists of 4U 1728–34, 4U 1820–34, Ser X-1, MXB 1730-335, GX 13+1, the millisecond X-ray pulsars SAX J1808.4-3658 and IGR J00291+5934, and these are compared with the black hole system GX 339–4. The ...
